And a couple things to try in the worst worry cases:

- List five things than can go wrong, and develop five ways you can help ensure they do not. If what you are concerned about is truly outside your control, spend some of that "worry energy" on developing a personal strategy to survive a worst-case scenario. Do a little research on this; challenge yourself to locate someone who has faced the worst you are imagining, and has told a story of hope. You may find something that helps.

- If there's nothing you can do, shift your energy as much as possible to being kept informed at key points on your difficult path. Try shifting focus on someone else also concerned about the same situation, or something like it. Action taken to help others is a way to care for yourself when there is nothing else to do.
