While we're generally down with the idea of planning aspects of our outer lives – home layouts, what we wear, what we drive, things we want to do or to have – we tend to take less time working with the structure of the inner lives from which we live every day. This practice requires less in the way of input from others, and more solitude.

Knowing when to retreat for a period of time – planning for it and doing it – is necessary for self-care. At times, though, we might stay in it too long, becoming emotionally if not physically distant to friends and family.

The tool below, from The Isolation Journals, offers gentle means by which to stay connected to what matters most when we retreat for any period of time, for any reason - making full re-entry into the real world easier when that time comes.
